Project Overview
The Community Care Annexe at St Richard’s Hospice, Worcester, was conceived as a sensitive extension to the existing hospice campus, providing dedicated accommodation for the community-based services that form a vital part of the hospice’s care provision. Designed within the established grounds of the hospice, the building brings together a series of therapy and consultation rooms alongside office space for nurses and support workers, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for both staff and visitors.
The scheme reflects the KKE Directors’ long-standing relationship with St Richard’s Hospice, having played a key role in the planning and delivery of the hospice’s various developments over the past decade. The new accommodation was carefully integrated into the existing setting, ensuring continuity with the character and ethos of the wider hospice estate.
Landscape Design
The surrounding landscape forms an integral part of the hospice experience. Supported by a Department of Health grant, the main gardens to the rear of the hospice were enhanced to create a tranquil and restorative setting for patients and their families. A series of meandering pathways lead visitors on an engaging journey around the lake and through the wider wildflower meadow beyond. Resting places positioned along the routes provide opportunities for reflection, while richly planted herbaceous borders offer year-round interest and a changing seasonal character, reinforcing the therapeutic qualities of the landscape and its connection to the natural environment.
