University Of Worcester – The Riverside Building

LOCATION: Worcester

COMPLETION: 2011

CLIENT: University of Worcester

Called The Riverside, this development extends the University of Worcester’s estate on a strategic new central site, linking the original campus and the new City Campus. Originally a large car dealership with workshops, the building was an ideal location for the University, which was looking for a suitable building to convert for sports and performance arts teaching, together with large social space for students and staff.

The building now incorporates a sports hall, specialist sports teaching rooms, a dance room and full changing rooms with showers. Our strategy was to optimise the layout for teaching and social functions and to concentrate the refurbishment efforts into reducing energy use by retaining as much of the basic envelope of the building as possible, adding elements to increase the scale, impact and dignity of the building.

‘One of their benefits is that they always recognise who is the client.’
