St Mary’s College, Oscott
LOCATION: Birmingham
COMPLETION: 2011
CLIENT: St Mary’s College
St Mary’s College, Oscott is the home of the Seminary of the Archdiocese and religious orders of England and Wales. Formation for priesthood normally takes 6 years, during which time students (known as seminarians) live in the seminary’s educational ecclesiastical community. A planned closure of the Ushawe RC seminary in Northumberland resulted in larger student numbers at Oscott.
The closure required a fast-track response. KKE Architects’ experience in both conservation work and modern construction methods placed us in a good position. The scheme proposed to refurbish and re-model large dilapidated dormitories to provide comfortable accommodation for the new intake of staff and students, whilst respecting and enhancing the sensitive nature of the Grade II* Listed building.
