The hospice’s existing therapy suite was made up of a row of little rooms. KKE Architects extended the whole wing outwards at ground floor level to make the rooms more useable, spacious and pleasant to be in. All overlooked a widened terrace leading onto a re-planted border.

The main change was to re-work the hospice’s social space to get rid of usage conflicts – people were eating, trying to meet visitors and having minor clinical procedures all in one open plan space, leaving no privacy or dignity. The creation of new space provided room for a separate dining room, coffee area and much more circulation space for screening, giving more discreet areas whilst maintaining the open plan feel.
